UPDATE: Washington College reports gun threat

Washington College is closed until further notice, due to an apparent gun threat.

The school tweeted an alert of a gun threat just before 7 AM Monday.

According to school officials, the parents of sophomore Jacob Marberger notified Washington College that he had returned to their Philadelphia home, and retrieved a firearm. We’re told his parents have not been able to reach him and do not know where he is or where is he is headed.

The school tells 47 ABC that Marberger may still be in Pennsylvania, and the Chestertown Police are considering him as a missing person. He is described by Authorities as a 5′ 4″ tall, male, weighing about 130 pounds, with light skin, and brown curly hair. Marberger was apparently last seen driving a 1997 dark green Land Rover with a Pennsylvania license plate, beginning with the letters JWY.

School officials have advised students to “shelter in place.” Students from Cecil, Dorchester and Talbot residence halls have been removed from their dorms in order for officers to do a proper search.

They are also ordering faculty and staff to not report to campus and asking anyone off campus, to stay away from campus until further notice. Classes have been temporarily suspended.

Public Safety has reportedly requested and received support from local law enforcement, who are now on campus.

Anyone with information on Marberger is urged to contact Public Safety at 410-778-7810.
