UPDATE: Salisbury man charged with attempted murder of roommate

Police in Salisbury say they arrested a man over the weekend, after he shot his roommate.

Salisbury Police Officers say they responded to a home on Patterson Avenue, for reports of shots fired. Once on scene, a 50-year-old woman was found inside, with an apparent gunshot wound to her upper torso. The victim was then rushed to Peninsula Regional Medical Center for treatment, of what Officials are saying are serious, but not life-threatening injuries.

During the investigation, Police say they learned that 62-year-old Jeffrey Jones walked into the victim’s bedroom, fired one gunshot at her, and then fled on foot. The assault was apparently unprovoked. The two have reportedly been roommates for about three years.

Police say they were able to locate Jones, shortly thereafter, and take him into custody. During his arrest, Police say they found a .32 caliber five shot handgun, along with an undisclosed amount of marijuana and cocaine. He was then charged with attempted first and second degree murder, first and second degree assault, wear and carry a deadly weapon, reckless endangerment, possession of firearm/commission of felony, possession of a controlled dangerous substance. Jones is currently behind bars at the Wicomico County Detention Center.
