UPDATE: Pocomoke City man accused of murdering toddler faces new charges

Kevin Sewell, of Pocomoke, MD

The Pocomoke man charged with killing his three-year-old nephew, has been indicted a second time in the case and is now facing new charges.

Kevin Sewell was indicted yesterday on both first and second degree murder charges, first degree child abuse that results in a death and neglect of a minor.

Investigators say Sewell’s nephew was found dead with injuries to the toddler’s head and stomach, either of which could have been what killed the boy.

In a statement to 47 ABC, Worcester County State’s Attorney Beau Oglesby says the first degree murder charge comes from new evidence;

He says, “Based on the type of injuries sustained by the victim, there were several reports and medical findings that were not made available for our review until recently. Having had the opportunity to thoroughly digest those reports and findings and having had the opportunity to discuss this case with the medical personnel and experts involved, it became apparent that not only were charges of first degree murder applicable, but they were appropriate.”

Sewell’s wife, Amanda Sewell is also facing charges in this case. Her trial date was set for December, but was postponed after a hearing yesterday.

There has been no word yet on when she will be back in court.
