UPDATE: Milford man charged for Sunday night shooting death in Dover

22-year-old Rondree Campbell, of Milford, Del.

Police in Dover say they have made an arrest in connection with a Sunday night shooting, that left one dead.

The Dover Police Department says they arrested 22-year-old Rondree Campbell, of Milford, on Wednesday afternoon at the Dover Probation and Parole office, after he was identified as the shooter in the South New Street shooting death, by Detectives.

During the investigation, Police say they found that Campbell had fired a gun multiple times in the area of South New Street on the night of November 1st, before returning 10 minutes later, again, firing several shots. Police say this time, one round fatally wounded Sylvester Williams, while several others rounds hit a home on South New Street, with several family members inside.

Campbell apparently admitted to being the shooter in both incidents. Detectives say Williams was in town helping a family member move, and that they believe that he wasn’t the intended target. Campbell was reportedly looking to retaliate after a physical confrontation that happened before the shooting, which Williams was not involved in.

Campbell was charged with first degree murder, two counts of possession of a firearm during commission of a felony, possession of firearm by person prohibited, carry concealed deadly weapon, and nine counts of first degree reckless endangering. He is now being held at the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center.

This was the seventh homicide in the City of Dover in 2015, according to Police, with three of those still unsolved. Police say they’ve also had an increase of shootings, 32 so far, but witness cooperation in these cases, continues to be inconsistent at best.

Following the latest homicide arrest Chief Paul Bernat stated: “We have provided extra patrols, we have positioned our officers and arranged their work schedules to combat criminal activity, and we continue to conduct community outreach activities in our high-crime areas. At some point, the citizens have to speak up and take a stand. That time is now. Help us, help you.”

Police say tips with information can be sent via telephone, social media, the department website, and through its partnership with Delaware Crime Stoppers. All of these options, Officials say, can be done anonymously. Those provided through Crime Stoppers are also eligible for an up to $1,000 reward.
