UPDATE: Man succumbs to injuries sustained in construction zone crash

A man injured in a two vehicle crash in late October, has died from his injuries.
Delaware State Police say on October 21, 86-year-old George Courtney Jr., of Camden, was driving on New Burton Road, near Webbs Lane, coming up to a construction zone, when he apparently drove passed the flagman, disregarding the stop sign that he was holding up.
Police say Courtney went into the grassy median, continued, and made his way from the southbound lanes to the north, where he accelerated and hit an SUV who had received the slow sign from the flagger, head on.
The southbound and northbound lanes were apparently divided by large orange barrels, and only one lane was in use, because of the on-going West Dover Connector Project.
The driver of the SUV was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, while Courtney was initially removed from the scene by EMS and taken to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition.
Police say Courtney sustained serious physical injuries, and remained at the Kent General Hospital until he succumbed to his injuries on November 1, 2015.
