Tips to protect your home during the holidays

With the holiday season approaching, many people will be headed out of town leaving their homes vacant and vulnerable to criminals.

Law enforcement say it may sound obvious, but always lock your doors. They also recommend inexpensive timers from local hardware stores that turn lights on an off at specific hours; as well as outside lighting.

However, even with those features, they say one of the most effective safety measures can be a second pair of eyes on the home. They say tell a trusted neighbor you’re going out of time.

Cpl. Gary Fournier says, “That way if they know that you’re not there and something suspicious is going on, or if somebody is at your house, and they see a light on that’s not supposed to be on around the time, they can contact the police.”

Police also say in addition to locking up the house, don’t forget to *car* and don’t leave any valuables.
