Three sent to hospital, one charged with DUI after crash

Members of the Delaware State Police say they have charged a Millsboro man with Driving Under the Influence following a crash Thursday evening, that closed areas of Route 24 for about about 90 minutes.

Troopers say the crash happened around 6:25 P.M. along Route 24 in the area of Mountaire Farms. According to witnesses, police say a Dodge Durango traveling westbound on Route 24 apparently swerved into the oncoming lane and struck a Volkswagen Beetle head-on.

Police say the impact caused the Durango to flip on its side.

According to State Police, the driver of the Durango, Joseph Peart, 45, was injured in the crash, as well as a 30-year-old passenger, and the driver of the Beetle. All were taken to Beebe Healthcare by ambulance, and treated for injuries.

Police say Peart was charged with two counts of first degree Vehicular Assault, Driving Under the Influence of a Combination of Alcohol and any Drug, Possession of a Controlled Substance without a Prescription, second degree Reckless Endangering, Driving While Suspended/Revoked, and various other traffic related charges.

Troopers say Peart was arraigned and placed in custody of the Delaware Department of Corrections in lieu of $7,102.00 secured bond.
