SU Football Falls To CNU

The Salisbury University football team took the field on Saturday afternoon against Christopher Newport University – a team that, on paper, should not have stood a chance against the Sea Gulls. However, the Captains showed up in Salisbury with one thing on the agenda, and that was a win in Gull territory.

SU jumped out to an early 7-0 lead and would end the first quarter in a 14-14 tie with the Captains, but CNU took over the in the second quarter. CNU junior, Taylor Loudan had an incredible game that made the Gulls’ secondary not sure how to respond to the catches he was making on the field. The Gulls trailed at halftime to the Captains 28-17, so the comeback was still in sight.

The fourth quarter seemed to bring hope to the Gulls who stayed within two scores, but CNU iced the game with a 20-point lead with 3:36 left on the clock, and held on for the win, 51-39.

Loudan led the game with 13 receptions for 230 yards – the next player even close to those stats was SU’s Isiah Taylor with 5 catches for 130 yards, including a 70 yard touchdown play in the 4th quarter.

The Gulls are back in action next week at Wesley for their last remaining regular season game.
