SU Field Hockey Tops CNU In CAC Semi’s

The Salisbury University field hockey team topped Christopher Newport University in the CAC Semifinals Wednesday night 2-1 to advance to the tournament championship. The win improves the Sea Gulls to 13-3 on the year.

Salisbury would jump out to a quick lead off a corner when Annah Brittingham would find Courtney Jantzen for the score. Then with about 10 minutes left in the half, SU would double their lead after Becca Rinaca would take the ball up the left sideline, then cross it to the far post where Jessica Crew would be waiting to finish it off.

The Gulls defense would come to play as well, limiting the Captains to just 3 shots in the first half. CNU would continue to attack in the second half, eventually drawing a penalty stroke that Alexa Weaver would put home to get her team within a single score. Salisbury’s defense would shut it down from there though, as SU would hold on for the victory.

SU will now travel to play Mary Washington on Saturday.
