Seaford woman accused of passing bad checks

A Seaford woman is facing charges, after Police say she wrote bad checks totaling more than $3,000.
The Delaware State Police say starting in March, and continuing for seven months, 34-year-old Michele Somers, began writing checks to various businesses in the Seaford and Laurel areas, but when the checks were deposited, the businesses were informed of the insufficient funds in her account.
They then apparently gave Somers a 10 day period to pay the balance that she owed, which she reportedly failed to do. Police say she racked up a balance of more than $3,800 at various businesses.
In one incident in October 2015, Troopers say Somers took four checks from a family member, signed them, and tried to make payments for rent, electric bills, and other items which totaled more than $3,200.
Somers was arrested on November 13, and charged with nine counts of issuing a bad check, four counts of forgery 2nd, attempted theft over $1,500, and two counts of theft under $1,500. She is now being held at the Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution on a $3,400 secured bond.
Police are asking anyone who believe they may have been a victim of Somers, to contact Sergeant L. Weller at 302-752-3802 or Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333. Tips can also be sent through the Crime Stoppers website, or via text to 274637 (CRIMES) using the keyword “DSP.”
