Sea Gulls claim 2015 CAC title

The Salisbury University men’s soccer team won their first CAC championship since the ’08-’09 season, defeating St. Mary’s 2-0, Saturday afternoon.

Leslie Umunna gave the Gulls the early lead off a penalty kick in the 13th minute. After a couple of great saves by senior keeper Drew Staedeli, the Gulls went into the locker room with a 1-0 lead.

A back and forth effort in the second half, the Gulls would strike again in the 73rd minute, when Brad Martinelli’s shot would be re-directed into the net by Josh Lord, giving the insurance goal the Gulls needed.

With the win, the Gulls get the automatic bid in the the NCAA tournament, which begins next week. The NCAA will announce the teams making the tournament field on Monday, November 9.
