for those candidates who will soon assume their new leadership roles within the city. there are a number of familiar faces — but this year is a first for all — with city council positions representing new districts. we’re joined live in the studio by 47 abc’s julian sadur — who has been following this election tonight — julian what are the results? good evening emily — over 14 hundred votes were cast today — and now that the dust has settled — salisbury has three new council members including mayor jim ireton — as well as new mayor — in council president jake day. in district one we had the closest race of the night — as april jackson slipped by incumbent shanie shields — by eight percent. in district two — in a race with no incumbents because of the redistricting — muir boda wins with fifty eight percent moving on to district three — in a race with two incumbents because of the redistricting — incumbent jack heath – beats out his current city council colleague — tim spies meanwhile in district four as i mentioned earlier — mayor jim ireton wins over roger mazzullo with fifty seven percent of the vote. and last but not least — in district five — incumbent laura mitchell ran uncontested. now although he’s only mayor elect emily — i was able to get jake day to tell me his plans for his first day in office. he tells me he aims to meet with each — and every one of the city’s workers. 5159 we got 424 employees in the city of salisbury who are working everyday for the people of this city and i got to lead that team and make them as capable as possible. so i got to inspire them, i got to support them, i got to make them feel like they can do absolutely anything to help this city 5213 now i was able to get a statement from mayor jim ireton on how he feels returning to the city council — and he says he feels wonderful — and that working families and senior citizens of the city know they have a champion on the council. as for the mayor elect jake day — we’ll have more from him tomorrow night — as 47 abc’ greg guidone will sit down with him to talk about some of the key issues in salisbury — including the proposed curfew — crime in the area — and the on and off again talks about a fire agreement with wicomico county. emily — back to you. alright, julian. thank you. if you would like to see the unofficial voting numbers — we have them up on our website — 47 abc dot com. also today — the general election for accomack county – aside from uncontested
