Officials in Delaware says sheltering services contract close

Officials in Delaware are apparently in the final stages of choosing a vendor for animal sheltering services in the First State. We’re learning more about the contract that will be awarded.
47 ABC previously reported about a petition from the Delaware SPCA claiming the contract was for the animal control services. However, according to a spokeswoman for the Division of Public Health, the contract will be for animal sheltering services. This comes after the state says, First State SPCA terminated its contract with the state regarding Animal control services.
Earlier this summer, the General Assembly gave the authority of animal control back to the state, rather than having to contract it out. Officials say that authority didn’t cover sheltering services for the animals that were taken in by animal control.
Officials say in August, the Division of Public Health requested proposals and they’re now close to a decision. If a vendor from out of state is chosen, officials say the priority is to keep the animals in state so they would need to have local facilities.
