Nov. 4 – Shine a Light on Lung Cancer

Lung Cancer is the leading cause of cancer death taking more lives annually than breast, prostate and colon cancer combined. This disease has touched many in our area including me.
I am a very, very fortunate woman. I am a two time lung cancer survivor. The ribbon color for lung cancer is clear, designated so because early symptoms of this disease are unnoticed, invisible. My lung cancer was found by accident, and I am one of only 16% of lung cancer patients who have been diagnosed before the disease has spread.
November is lung cancer awareness month and on November 5th, I will join other advocates and survivors for Shine a Light Salisbury at The Centre at Salisbury to provide hope, inspiration and support for those impacted by lung cancer. We will also offer information on the recently approved Low Dose CT Screening program for those that are at a high risk to develop lung cancer. This program will save lives because screening could detect the disease at an early stage.
Shine a Light is a free event benefiting Lung Cancer Alliance, the leading non-profit organization dedicated to saving lives and advancing research by empowering those living with and at risk for lung cancer.
