MD governor’s office responds to protesting state employees

State employees held a series of rallies all over Maryland, including Salisbury on Thursday. They were asking for more support from the government. On Friday, the state provided a response for them.
Folks united in a parking lot on Route 13 Thursday evening in Salisbury asking for fair pay, fair treatment at work, and financial resources to provide public services.
The common theme shared was “Maryland should be open for families, not business.” Many people expressed concern over current wages not being high enough for supporting families.
In a statement to 47 ABC, Maryland Governor Larry Hogan’s office says, “Maryland is facing a $1 billion deficit over the next several years. Making rash decisions to spend a possible surplus is irresponsible and something that this administration will not do. Despite Maryland’s fiscal situation– in July– Governor Hogan pushed through a 2 percent raise for state employees, which had been eliminated by the previous administration.”
