Lewes woman charged with vehicular assault in Rehoboth crash

A Lewes woman is facing charges, after Police say she crashed into another vehicle, while drunk.

Delaware State Police say on Sunday around 10:15 PM, 43-year-old Yvonne K. Willey was driving a 2010 Infiniti EX35 on Warrington Road, coming up to a right curve, just before Route 24 – John J. Williams Highway, when she crossed into the southbound lane.

According to the report, Willey then hit a 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer, head on. Police say both occupants of the Mitsubishi, a 24-year-old Rehoboth man and a 22-year-old Lewes woman, were both rushed to Beebe Healthcare by EMS, where they were admitted with undetermined injuries.

The Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company says when they arrived on scene, Willey’s vehicle was off the road, in a field, and the Mitsubishi was on Warrington Road, with both occupants trapped inside. Firefighters reportedly worked to extricate the two, before they were rushed to Beebe.

Willey was reportedly uninjured in the crash, and was taken to Troop 7 for a DUI investigation. She was then charged with two counts of vehicular assault 1st, driving under the influence of alcohol, and driving on the wrong side of the road, according to Police.

She is now apparently being held Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution, on a $6,550 cash bond.
