Lake Forest Falls In State Quarterfinals
Throughout the 2015 football season, the Lake Forest Spartans have continued to turn heads around in the Henlopen for the way that they have been able to win games despite slow first half play. However, the Spartans kept plugging away and managed to get wins any way they possibly could and it worked.
The boys in blue took the field at Tower Hill to take on Wilmington Friends – both teams who look to use the run game as their main source of offense. In the first quarter, it looked like it was going to be all about the Quakers after they took a 14-0 lead, but the Spartans defense stepped up in the second half. Lake Forest would eventually get on the board with just over a minute left in the first half after a mere white ran the ball in to make it a 14-7 game heading into halftime.
Following a half, the third-quarter got off to a very slow start for both teams, but Friends would get on the board first to make it a 21-7 game. However, leave it to the Spartans to respond with a touchdown early in the fourth quarter to make it eight 21-14 game and close the gap to make it just a one score game. The Quakers defense came up with some major fourth quarter stops and their offense took care of the rest as they got the win over Lake Forest, 34-14.
The Spartans did not look like themselves out on the field on Saturday afternoon, but they definitely put up a great fight on the defensive side of the ball making several goal line stops against the Quakers. Lake Forest closes out regular season play with an 8-2 record and overall, 8-3.
