Kent Island Gets The Big Road Win Over Queen Anne’s
The Queen Anne’s Lions took the road last week taking on North Caroline and fell short of a big upset, but this week they had another opportunity to make a statement taking on Kent Island at home.
Kent Island has gained momentum throughout the season and looks better each time they step on the field under a new coaching staff. The game was close all the way through and even came down to the last drive of the game.
The first touchdown of the game was scored by Ahmad Gray, who could not be stopped; he ran the ball 75 yards to give Queen Anne’s a 7-0 lead. However, the Buccaneers would tie up the game later in the first quarter as Luke Fromert connected with Mike Quinn for a 9 yard touchdown – the game would be tied up 7-7 after one quarter of play. Second quarter, the Bucs managed to shut down the Lions and Mike Quinn helped give his team the lead with another touchdown run to give Kent Island the 14-7 lead at half.
The second-half continue to be a defense of battle on the field between the Lions and Bucs, but it would be Queen Anne’s that struck first in the third quarter. After several short passing plays, the Lions marched their way down the field when Tommy Bull sailed one into the air into the hands of Carlos Wilson who scored what could have been the equalizing touchdown, but the extra point was blocked so the Bucs held onto the lead, 14-13. Kent Island responds quickly with a 50 yard run from Mike Quinn and a two yard touchdown on the ground from Joe Sweet – so with eight seconds remaining in the third quarter, the Bucs add to their lead making it 21-13.
Both teams continued to lock down on defense in the fourth quarter, not allowing any points on the board. Queen Anne’s had one last shot to tie things up lead in the fourth quarter with time running down, but it was all about the Bucs tonight. The Lions could not catch a break offensively with penalties, or lack there of, leading to the Kent Island win, 21-13.
