Indian River recaptures Division II Championship

The Indian River boys soccer team returned to glory Saturday night, defeating defending champion Caravel 1-0 to win the DIAA Division II state championship.
Oscar Cruz Osorio netted the only goal in the 5th minute of action, taking a pass, dribbling twice and firing from about 30 yards out. The early lead caught Caravel by surprise, and gave IR some wiggle room to work with.
After going into the break 1-0, Caracel came out attacking, looking for an equalizer. The IR defense held strong, led by junior Max Stong. Time after time, Stong and his crew held the Buccaneers down with aggressive play, limiting them to just 4 shots on goal all night, none giving IR goalkeeper Ian Walls any trouble.
The victory gives the Indiana their first state championship since 2013.
