Felton man charged for causing crash after tampering with moving vehicle

A Felton man is accused of grabbing the steering wheel of a vehicle, and causing an crash.

Milford Police say on November 1, Officers responded to reports of an accident on South DuPont Highway. Once on scene, Police, along with the Carlisle Fire Department, say they found the vehicle overturned, with two people trapped inside. First responders were apparently able to pull the two from the vehicle, and found that there were four people inside at the time of the crash.

During the investigation, Officers say they learned that 68-year-old Linwood Lewis was seated in the front passenger seat inside the vehicle. According to the report, without warning, and for unknown reasons, Lewis grabbed the steering and started struggling with the driver, while the vehicle was in driving down the highway. Police say the driver then lost control of the vehicle, causing it to run off the road, spin, then overturn.

Lewis was apparently one of of the two occupants to get out, before law enforcement arrived on scene, but Officials say Lewis, a 51-year-old man, a 50-year-old woman and a 47-year-old woman all suffered non-life threatening injuries, and were all transported to Milford Bayhealth Hospital for treatment. They were all reportedly later released.

Lewis was arrested a few days later, and charged with three counts of reckless endangering 1st degree, three counts of assault 3rd degree, and felony criminal mischief over $5,000. Lewis was arraigned, and released on $10,000 unsecured bond.
