District three candidates discuss platforms

Voters across the country will head to the polls on Tuesday for local elections, including in Salisbury. 47 ABC hosted a panel at SU to hear from the candidates.
Jack Heath, Kevin Lindsay and Tim Spies are running for the district three council seat. Ernie Coulburn, CEO and president of the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce addressed the unemployment issue. He asked the candidates during the panel how they would bring larger businesses to the city and end the quote “brain drain,” the phenomenon of students getting educated at Salisbury University, and then leaving the area as soon as they graduate.
Heath says, “Why not encourage the manufacturers that we have to come together to tell us what their needs are and increase and invest. They can grow the number of jobs in their own companies right here.”
Lindsay says, “For me to sit up here and say hey I have the answer, I don’t play games. Maybe you guys do, but I don’t. It’s going to take some collaborative research to figure out why companies are leaving and to figure out how we can get businesses to come in.”
Spies says, “We have great infrastructure, we have wonderfully trained people, we have a great educational system, all of those things will make this place a great place to come back to.”
