Del. residents want buzzards to buzz off

If you were anywhere near the Chimney Hill community on Tuesday evening, you probably heard lots of sirens and commotion.

That was a message for turkey vultures, letting them know they are not welcome.

Firefighters shined high-intensity lights at the vultures on early Tuesday evening, as residents also made loud noises to try to get them to leave.

Large concentrations of these buzzards have taken roost in the area over the past year, which has apparently caused property damage with their sharp nails and beaks.

We’re told these buzzards they also produce foul-smelling corrosive vomit as a natural defense.

These vultures are a federally protected species that cannot be harmed without a permit.

Brandon Olenik, a member of the Felton Fire Department, says the fire chief believes tonight’s efforts were success; however, they may have to follow up again in a few days.
