Community says good-bye to Parsonsburg Fire Chief

Waves of friends, family and state officials gathered in Salisbury on Saturday to pay tribute to and say good-bye to a local fire chief.

Ryan Whittington, former president of the Parsonsburg Volunteer Fire Company, says firefighters from as far as Anne Arundel County and troopers from Maryland State Police and Delaware State Police attended the funeral for the late Chief Steve White.

Officials say Chief White played an instrumental role in raising funds for the current Parsonsburg Fire house on Old Ocean City Road, which opened in 2010.

White is the longest serving chief in the fire company’s history, serving 19 years as fire chief.

He passed away peacefully on November 5 after battling melanoma after first being diagnosed in July 2015.

The funeral was held at the Emmanuel Wesleyan Church in Salisbury.
