Clock Strikes Midnight On Woodbridge’s Run

The Woodbridge football team saw their incredible post season run come to an end Saturday afternoon when they fell on the road to top seeded St. Georges 33-14. The Blue Raiders finish out the season with a 8-4 record.
The Hawks would explode out of the gate as Gary Brightwell would break loose for a 79 yard touchdown run on the first play from scrimmage. Then after a quick 3 and out from the Blue Raiders, it looked like St. Georges was going to put the game away early. But facing 3rd down, Tordell Kemp would drop back to pass but get hit by Garret Temple. The ball would fall into the hands of Jaylyn Magee who would return it down to the 15. That would lead to the Blue Raiders first score as Troy Haynes found Bragg Davis for the 24 yard score. The defensive battle would pick up from there til the Blue Raiders were finally able to punch another one in. Haynes would find Davis for a 45 yard pick up to set them up deep in Hawks territory. That would lead to a short 4 yard touchdown score off the left side by Kirby Williams. Blue Raiders would take a 14-7 lead into the locker rooms.
But it was a different St. Georges team that came out of the locker room.
The Hawks defense became smothering. They doubled Davis every time he went down field, while also stuffing the run. And while Woodbridge’s offense struggled to find their rhythm, the Hawks offense began to soar. Brightwell exploded for 3 second half scores as he ran for 229 yards and 4 touchdowns on the day, and simply could not be stopped. The Blue Raiders couldn’t ever come up with the answer, as time would run out on their season.
