Clayton driver in critical condition following crash

Police are investigating after a Clayton driver was found laying on the side of the road, following a single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning.

According to Delaware State Police, the crash happened around 4:15 a.m. Sunday as 29-year-old Jesus Manuel Ayala-Rivera was traveling westbound on Holletts Corner Road approaching Walnut Tree Road.

An investigation has revealed that Ayala-Rivera lost control of the vehicle and began to slide off the west side of the roadway.  His car then struck a ditch and overturned, possibly ejecting Ayala-Rivera.

Police say he was located by a passer-by laying on the side of the road. He was airlifted from the scene by Delaware State Police Aviation to Christiana Medical Center, where he is listed in critical condition. 

Alcohol and speed are being considered as contributing factors in this case.
