Cape Henlopen uses strong second half to take another title

The Cape Henlopen Vikings field hockey team capped off an undefeated season with the 2015 DIAA state championship, defeating Delmar 3-1.

After a scoreless first half, the teams turned the offense immediately in the second, with Cape freshman Alia Marshall scoring just 23 seconds out of halftime to give her team a 1-0 lead. Delmar would fight back for possession, and eventually get a goal of their own 10 minutes later by freshman Ashlyn Carr.

In a 1-1 game with less than 15 minutes to play, the four time defending champions used their experience to grind the game out. Marshall would score her second with 14:31 to go, then Cape would put things away with Madison Irwin getting a stick on the scrum right in front of the cage.

The win is the 73rd straight win for the Vikings, and 86th in a row over in-state opponents, and their fifth consecutive state title.
