Cape Henlopen students use technology to get ahead

Jason Fruchtman is helping his art students at Cape Henlopen H.S. get accustomed to the new technology to prepare for college. He says hands on works helps them absorb the technology and once they wrap their head around how it works, they can get creative. The bottom line is – if they can imagine it – they can build it.

Art students aren’t the only beneficiaries, they work in close conjunction with a robotics class. The students collaborate to help build pieces for robots. Fruchtman says that this collaboration can help spark interest in robotics for art students – and vice versa.

Fruchtman also incorporates other technologies into his class – such as interactive projectors, special video cameras and even drones. The point of all the technology is to help the students gain an advantage when they move on to college.

The art teacher says that students are going to have to use this technology in life and grow with it, so it is important for them to learn how to use it now to be ahead of the curve.

Fruchtman also says that 3D printing is the future – and hes not lying. NASA is already using this technology to print objects that they need. This technology is critical given all the talk about making a trip to Mars. A trip to the red planet would certainly mean unforseen obstacles that 3D printing just may be able to fix.  The future of 3D printing is wide open – and thanks to the technology like 3D printing at Cape Henlopen High School – so is the future for these young students.
