Caitlin Adams plans to set world record by running across US

It’s been only a few months since Preston native Caitlin Adams finished her run across Maryland to raise money to purchase prosthetic limbs for those in need. Now, Adams has her eyes, and legs. set on something much larger, running across America for the female world record.

Adams said she finalized the decision two weeks ago, with a public post on her Instagram. Adams said this summer she’ll run to raise money for those in need of prosthetic limbs, but also to raise money for a friend she made during her run across Maryland, Travis Fisher.

Fisher is a member of the Salisbury Jaycee’s and was diagnosed with lymphoma earlier this year.

“He helped me a ton and is such a happy person and it breaks my heart and I’m sure a lot of other peoples to see this happen, so I want to help him as much I can too,” Adams said.

Adams plans are ambitious, even according to her. She plans to start her run in San Francisco, CA on June 1 and make it to New York only 60 days later by running 50 miles per day.

Just as with her run across Maryland, Adams said she has her doubters, but adds that’s all she’s focused on is her training.

“I don’t want to hear those things that are going to hold me back,” Adams said. “So I’m going to get my body in the best shape that I can get it in.”

Right now Adams is focused on building up strength in her muscles because she says she’ll be breaking down muscle during her run across America.

Adams said she runs three to five miles per day as of now, but once January arrives she’ll begin running distances.

Last year Adams was able to raise $24,000. Now that she’s running a little further, she’s upped her goal.

“I want to raise a million dollars, honestly, it sounds ridiculous but so is running across America I guess, so why not,” Adams said.

The only thing standing in Adams way now, is money.

Among other things, Adams said she’ll need to rent or have someone donate an RV for her to stay in.

If Adams doesn’t get enough money though, the run could be in jeopardy.

“The thing is if I don’t get enough money I wont be able to start it this summer, but I think I can and as long as people donate and the word gets spread I’ll be able to do it,” Adams said.

Adams said she would like to raise $100,000 before June, with less than an eighth of that going to her personal expense. The rest Adams said will go to buying new prosthetic limbs and helping out Fisher.

Those funds can be donated to her go fund me here.
