Blair Vilov Scores 2 Goals To Help Parkside Advance

The Parkside girls soccer team was recently crowned the Bayside Champions after beating Queen Anne’s in the finals just last week, but the Lions took another shot at taking down the Rams in the 2A State Tournament.

Did I forget to mention that these two teams also battled against one another last year in the state tournament and took things into PKs, which according to Blair Vilov, that was not something these teams wanted to do.

Queen Anne’s came out on fire, dominating the Rams across the field putting shots on frame – left and right – when finally Charly Rekstis got the ball from Shannon  Donovan who crossed it from the outside – Rekstis put it in the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead. The Lions kept putting the pressure on the Rams, but Parkside managed to keep it just a one goal game heading into halftime.

As a second-half got underway, the Rams look like a brand-new team on the field and they dominated the beginning of the second half with Vilov putting away the equalizer to make it 1-1 just twelve minutes into the second half. From that point on, the game was pretty even throughout and on the defensive side of the ball, both teams played extremely well. As time ran out, Parkside and Queen Anne’s would be tied at 1 – 1 and that would take things into overtime.

Less than four minutes into overtime, Vilov put away the game-winner off of a corner kick as the Rams top the Lions 2 – 1 to stay alive in the state tournament.

The Rams are now headed to the 2A Regional Championship game next Tuesday, November 10.
