Berlin man arrested twice in one day for DUI

Joshua Matthew Carey, 20, of Berlin, MD

A Berlin man was arrested twice in one day, after Police say he was found to be driving under the influence.

The Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office says on Friday around 2:00 PM, a Deputy arrested 20-year-old Joshua Carey, after an investigation into a collision involving Carey’s vehicle and a wooden flower box in front of Sherwood Ford. The Deputy apparently suspected that Carey was under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance, which impaired his ability to operate a vehicle.

After his arrest, Carey, who reportedly refused to a blood test but was deemed impaired by a Drug Recognition Expert, was charged with several citations, and released. He was apparently picked up as a passenger, once released.

Around 5:30 PM, the Sheriff’s Office says that same Deputy saw Carey again, driving on North Salisbury Boulevard, and pulled him over near Gordy Road. Carey was then arrested and charged a second time.

In all, Carey is facing two counts of driving while impaired by a controlled dangerous substance, two counts of driving vehicle while impaired by drugs could not drive safely, and driving motor vehicle within 12 hours after arrested for driving impaired. After his second arrest, he was ordered to be held on a $10,000 bond at the Wicomico County Detention Center.
