Arrive Alive brings simulator to UMES

Thousands of people are killed every year as a result of drunk driving. Drivers under the age of twenty have the highest proportion of distraction-related fatal crashes.

That’s why Unite’s Arrive Alive Tour brings a simulator and impact video to schools and communities across the country.

Students hop inside the program’s vehicle and put on simulator goggles where they experience dangerous results of distracted driving first hand.

The program visited the University of Maryland Eastern Shore on Thursday. 47 ABC caught up with a student who tried out the simulator.

She says while behind the wheel, her simulated alcohol level was above the legal limit. She swerved, drove below the posted speed, ended up on the wrong side of the road and caused a crash.

Treyquana Nelson, a sophomore at UMES says, “It just pretty much reiterated and proved to me that it’s incorrect and wrong to drink and drive. It just goes to show that you literally cannot control your actions while under the influence behind a vehicle.”
