Accomack Co. Sheriff searching for missing Mappsville man

Police in Accomack County say they are looking for a missing elderly Mappsville man, who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease.

The Accomack County Sheriff’s Office says just after 10:00 PM, they received a missing persons report for 80-year-old Howard Shrieves, Jr., of Mappsville. According to the report, Shrieves was last known to be driving a 1999 black Ford Escort, to Pocomoke City, Maryland, around 5:00 PM on Thursday. The Sheriff’s Office says the Escort has Virginia plates VKB2761, and damage to the passenger side front fender. Shrieves apparently never made it to his destination.

Investigators say they believe that Shrieves may have traveled through James County and Fredericksburg, Virginina in the late evening hours of Thursday, and into Friday morning. He may have been headed north. The Sheriff’s Office says that Shrieves suffers from Alzheimer’s disease, and may appear confused.

Anyone with information about Shrieves’ whereabouts is asked to contact the Accomack County Sheriff’s Office at 757-787-1131, or through their website.
