Wesley pulls thru with tough win over Profs

The no. 4 ranked Wesley football team pulled thru with a close home win, defeating no. 21 ranked Rowan 38-25 on the turf of Drass Field at Scott D. Miller Stadium in Dover.

Wesley quarterback Joe Callahan was 37-50 for 399 yards with 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. Bryce Shade led the Wolverines with 12 catches, going for 159 yards. Senior tight end Kyle George caught 10 balls, for 96 yards.

Freshman Alex Kemp got the scoring started for the Wolverines, catching a 44 yard touchdown pass from Callahan in the first quarter, capping a 6 play 74 yard drive. Rowan would lead 9-7 after the first, but Wesley would take the lead and go into the locker room leading 14-7.

In the second half, Wesley would score on consecutive drives, with an Eric Speidel field goal, and a Jamal Baynard 2-yard touchdown run. The teams would trade scores near the end of the third, and Rowan would score 9 consecutive points in the fourth to cut Wesley’s lead to 6 with just under 9 minutes to go. Wesley would engineer a drive late in the fourth, with running back Jamar Baynard capping off a 123 yard performance with his third touchdown of the day, this one from 14 yards out.

Wesley will travel next week to take on Montclair State, game time is set for 1 p.m.
