UPDATE: Legislative Hall closed until Tuesday following fire

The flames that ripped through Legislative Hall in Dover on Wednesday, have been ruled as accidental.

Officials with the Dover Fire Marshal’s Offices says the fire was caused by an exhaust pipe in the attic space for the building emergency backup generator within the basement. According to the report, the exhaust pipe caused nearby combustibles in the attic to ignite, during a full load test of the generator.

Officials want to clarify that building’s backup generator was not damaged by fire, and was not the source of the fire.

During the blaze, two people were injured, a Capitol Police Officer was transported to Kent General Hospital for treatment, and was released, while a Little Creek Firefighter was treated at the scene, and released by medical staff.

The State of Delaware says they are working with contractors to establish the extent of the damages, and will release that information as it becomes available. The building will reportedly remain closed until Tuesday.
