UPDATE: Death of teen under investigation in Salisbury, school releases statement

The Wicomico County Sheriff Office’s confirms, a death investigation is under way for a teen in Salisbury.

According to Sheriff Mike Lewis, authorities were called to the scene around 3:45 PM on Sunday, after a 16-year-old was found on or near the campus of Salisbury University.

The teen and two others were reportedly around the campus when the victim suffered a medical episode. Officials say, students near by the incident attempted life saving techniques, and the victim was alive when they were transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center. He was reportedly pronounced dead at PRMC, a short time after.

The victim and two others had no apparent ties with the university.

Authorities say, the teen’s body has been sent to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Baltimore, where they are working to determine a cause of death. Officials believe the results should be available in a few weeks.

Statement from Superintendent of Schools Dr. John Fredericksen:

Parkside High School and Wicomico County Public Schools are saddened by the passing on Sunday evening of Cameron Dashiell, 16, a student in his third year at Parkside High School. Our deepest sympathies go out to his family and friends at this very difficult time.

The Wicomico County Bureau of Investigation is investigating the circumstances of his death.

Parkside High staff members were informed of Cameron’s death this morning, and extra personnel are at Parkside today to provide support to students and staff. Support staff are also available at James M. Bennett High, where a number of Cameron’s former classmates attend.

Teachers will share the news with students, and a moment of silence will take place at the end of 6th period.
