Troopers investigate fatal hit and run pedestrian crash in Farmington

Delaware State Police say, they are investigating a fatal hit and run in Farmington that left one Harrington man dead.

According to reports, the incident happened just before 10:30 PM on Wednesday. Apparently, 36-year-old Jay P. Grove III of Harrington, was in the northbound right lane of South DuPont Highway just north of Main Street, reason yet unknown, when he was struck by a vehicle traveling on the same road. The vehicle reportedly fled the scene without stopping.

Then police say, a motorcyclist also traveling north on South DuPont Highway hit Grove, which he initially thought was a deer in the roadway. The motorcyclist stopped and contacted police.

Grove, who was wearing dark clothing, was pronounced dead at the scene. The motorcyclist was not injured and had mechanical damage to his motorcycle.

Troopers are continuing their investigation into this incident and the possibility that other vehicles may have struck the pedestrian in the roadway. Northbound on South DuPont Highway was closed for about six and a half hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
