Troopers investigate crash in Georgetown involving a school bus

Delaware State Police say, they are investigating a crash between a pickup truck and a school bus full of students from a local high school.

According to reports, the crash happened on Thursday around 3:00 PM on Wood Branch Road and DuPont Boulevard. Investigators say, a 17-year-old, of Georgetown was driving a Ford pickup truck south on Wood Branch Road. Once he approached a posted yield sign at DuPont Boulevard, he apparently failed to stop for the school bus. The bus reportedly driven by 81-year-old George Haller, of Millsboro was in the northbound lane and attempted to avoid the truck by swerving into the left lane, but was unsuccessful. After the collision, both vehicles were reportedly able to come to a controlled stop on the northbound shoulder of DuPont Boulevard.

The 17-year-old was reportedly properly restrained and uninjured in the crash. He was cited for failure to yield the right of way and failure to have insurance in possession.

Haller and all but one of the 37 students from Sussex Central High School were allegedly uninjured in the collision. A 16-year-old female from Georgetown was transported to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital with minor non-life-threatening injuries.
