The state Senate races to watch on Election Day

(AP) – Partisan control for Virginia’s state Senate is up for grabs this November.
There are six races expected to be competitive, including two open seats. The Richmond-area race where Democrat Dan Gecker is facing off against Republican Glen Sturtevant is one of the most closely watched races. The other competitive open seat is in Northern Virginia, where Democrat Jeremy McPike is running against Republican Hal Parrish.
There are four incumbents in competitive races. Democrat Sen. Lynwood Lewis, who represents the Eastern Shore, is running against Republican Richard Ottinger; Roanoke’s Democratic Sen. John Edwards is facing GOP candidate Nancy Dye and Democrat-turned-independent Don Caldwell; outspoken conservative Republican Sen. Dick Black of Northern Virginia is competing against Jill McCabe; and in Virginia Beach, Democrat Gary McCollum is trying to unseat Republican Frank Wagner.
