SU Women’s Soccer Tops Wesley In Rout 13 Rivalry

The Salisbury University women’s soccer team picked up yet another win Wednesday afternoon when they defeated Rout 13 Rival Wesley 2-0. The win improves the Sea Gulls to 12-4-1 on the year, while the loss drops the Wolverines to 5-10-2.

Salisbury would dominate ball possession in the first half, earning 5 corners and getting off 17 shots, but was unable to put any of them home. Victoria Luc, Samantha Beck and Jenna DeLetto were doing a great job of reversing field with the ball, finding cutters through the box, but just could never finish off the play. Whether it was missing the goal all together, or firing it directly at the Wolverines keeper Antonia Pote, the teams would find themselves scoreless at the half.

Salisbury would go on a run to open up the second half though. The Gulls were awarded a free kick from mid field that keeper Hope Knussman would take, and send a beautiful ball into the box. It would get deflected to Heather Deamond who would volley it in. Then shortly after that, Salisbury would push their lead to 2-0 after Deamond would have a through ball that would find Lindsey Andonian who would beat the keeper near post. The Wolverines then started to finally apply the pressure as Janiah Moore would finally get a shot off on goal, but everyone would be saved by Knussman.

With the win, Salisbury earns the 4th seed in the conference tournament will host Mary Washington on Saturday, while the loss ends the season for Wesley.
