Smyrna’s Will Knight Leads Eagles Over Dover

The Dover Senators took the field on Saturday night against the Smyrna Eagles in some tough weather conditions. The Senators came into Saturday’s game with huge momentum after last week’s huge road win over Lake Forest. Despite a loss last week to Salesianum, the Eagles still looked very good and posted 56 points against the Sallies.

The game was set to play on Friday night, however, the decision to change the game to Saturday was to make sure it was weather permitting. Saturday’s conditions were far from perfect, but the game must be played and it was the Eagles who stole the show under the lights. More specifically, it was Smyrna’s sophomore running back, William Knight, who shined in the Eagles match up against the Senators. Knight’s performance starred with 254 yards on the ground, which included all 5 of the Eagles touchdowns and a 2-point conversion for each of those five touchdowns.

Smyrna took the early 8-0 lead, followed with a Jerry Warren touchdown as the Eagles still had the 8-6 lead and that would be the score after the first quarter of play. With the help of big offensive plays around him, Knight managed to score another 3 touchdowns in the second quarter to help the Eagles take a 32-6 lead over the Senators.

In the second half, both teams put up one more touchdown each and that would round out the game with the monster performance from the sophomore, William Knight, again scoring 5 touchdowns. Smyrna snags a huge Henlopen North win over Dover, 40-14 the final.

Next week, Smyrna is back at home next week for their Homecoming game against Howard HS of Tech – game time is set for 7:30 pm. While Dover will stay at home next week as the welcome in the Polytech Panthers in a homecoming match up as well – kick off is at 7:30 pm as well.
