Seaford man charged with 5th DUI

Delaware State Police have arrested a Seaford man for his 5th DUI offense, after he reportedly failed to slow down or move over for an emergency vehicle.
Police say the incident happened around 10:50 p.m. Friday, when a trooper was conducting a traffic stop on Seaford Road near Route 13, just north of Easter Lane in Blades.
As the trooper exited the patrol car, we’re told a separate vehicle driven by 42-year-old Willie Davis was traveling northbound on Seaford Road and passed the trooper within two feet. Davis had failed to slow down or move over even though there was no other traffic in the southbound lanes, according to police.
Police tell 47 ABC the trooper stopped the initial traffic stop and proceeded to catch up to the other vehicle. It was eventually stopped on Johnson Road, just west of Seaford Road.
Authorities say the trooper detected an odor of alcohol on the Davis. He was transported back to Troop 5, where an investigation into his driving record revealed that he was currently suspended from driving and had four previous DUI convictions dating back to April of 2002.
Davis was charged with 5th Offense Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, Driving While Suspended or Revoked, and Failure to Reduce Speed or Move Over for Emergency Vehicles. He has been committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $6,550.00 cash bond.
In a statement sent to 47 ABC, Corporal Gary Fournier of the Delaware State Police says “The Delaware State Police would like to remind motorists to move over or slow down for emergency vehicles, DOT vehicles, public utility vehicles, and tow trucks that are utilizing their overhead flashing amber, white, red, or blue lights. We are providing the state law so that people will re-familiarize themselves with the law and keep the workers and first responders safe.”
