Salisbury takes next step in downtown revitalization

Apartments, shops and more will be coming to Salisbury now that the city has come to an agreement with developer Devreco.

Monday night Mayor Jim Ireton signed off on the deal to sell the city run parking lot south of the downtown plaza.

The plans to build on that parking lot, according to Councilman Jake Day, have been in place since 1965.

Currently, Day said business has been driven to the downtown district through short term or intermediate solutions.

Bringing more development to downtown Day said, is a long term fix.

“We have to know that eventually you have to give the Maya Bella’s of the world and the Main Roots the crowd and that home base of support which is going to come from downtown residents, so you have to build those residences,” Day said.

Day said that residents should expect no immediate changes, as shovels likely aren’t expected to break ground within the next five years.

Devreco is familiar with the area, as they already have multiple contracts they are working on in the downtown area.
