Salisbury contractor shows how homeowners can save money on energy bills

Ryan Weitzel, a contractor from FLC energy. took 47 ABC through an energy audit at a typical house in Salisbury. Homeowners are losing money on energy bills literally through the cracks of their homes, if they have not made renovations or improvements in a while. A typical air system leaks anywhere from 20-30%, but when you add bad insulation into the mix that’s where you start seeing problems.
Ryan Weitzel, says, “It’s much like a wool sweater on a cold day the wind is going to blow through it and get cold, if you put a windbreaker over it you will be nice and toasty and be comfortable. Insulation is the same way.”
During the audit he checked the temperature of each wall in a room with an infrared camera. He tells us discrepancies in wall temperatures within the same room can be a sign that heating or cooling is escaping. One of the biggest money saving tips he recommends is to examine the condition of the insulation. If insulation is not evenly placed around stairs, attics, and basements the cool air and heating can easily escape.
He also recommends making sure dehumidifiers release humidity outside of the house. Releasing humidity inside can destroy the insulation and cause mold to grow, and that can eventually lead to health problems if it’s breathed in.
