Saints Peter and Paul Girls Soccer Advance To ESIAC Title

The Saints Peter and Paul girls soccer team hit the road Wednesday afternoon in the semifinals of the ESIAC tournament, and upset second seeded Salisbury School 3-1. The win advances the Sabres to the championship game.

The Sabres would take the lead just over 10 minutes into the match when Elena Esper would get a cross at the far post and put it home. The Dragons then had their chance to tie the match when Logan Prushansky was taken down in the box, drawing a PK. But her kick would sail on her over the upright. Saints Peter and Paul would then be awarded a PK after a hand ball in the box was called. Sarah Rust’s initial shot would be saved, but she would follow it up and put the rebound home to give her team a 2-0 lead. The Sabres then made it 3-0 after the Dragons defense was looking to clear a ball, but Esper would have it get deflected off of her, and find the back of the net. The Dragons would finally get on the board with under 20 minutes to go in the match when Caroline Lewis would fire a perfect shot to the far post from over 20 yards out. But Salisbury School could never make up all the deficit, as the Sabres went on to pull off the upset.
