Requirements for freezing a child’s credit report

Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh and health officials launched a child identity theft prevention campaign on Tuesday.
Officials are asking parent’s and guardian’s to freeze their children’s credit reports. Although every credit bureau has specific requests, there are some things everyone will need to provide to successfully place a security freeze.
A parent or guardian must provide their full name, home mailing address, and birthdate. The child’s full name, home mailing address and birthdate, along with an official copy of their social security card and birth certificate are required.
A parent or guardian needs to show either a social security card, birth certificate, driver’s license, or some other form of a government issued I-D.
A copy of a utility bill is used to verify the guardian’s name and home address. There is a fee of no more than five dollars under Maryland law to place a security freeze.
