Reports of rabid fox in Wicomico County

Health Officials in Wicomico County are seriously advising residents to stay away from stray cats. A fox has been tested positive for rabies in the Boundary Street area of Salisbury. It is apparently known to share common food sources with the feral cats.

Since feral cats pose a serious public health threat through the spread sometimes fatal diseases, Officials say they hope residents listen to their warnings and remove all of the food that may be out there.

Dennis DiCintio, the Director of Environmental Heath tell 47 ABC that “Residents should remove all of the food that may be out. There is a large feral cat population in the area and we are trying to prevent the spread of rabies from that fox into that cat population.” He hopes that people will heed the warning and stop feeding the feral cats.
