Potential Hebron medical marijuana cultivation site plans to give back to the community

The deadline to apply for a medical marijuana license

Robert and Jamila Gonsalves are the owners of BioCannatix, a medical marijuana company applying for a license for a cultivation facility in Hebron, Maryland.  They believe Wicomico County was the right place to launch their site.

“Wicomico is where we had the opportunity to invest inland that’s what first interested us in the location,” says Robert Gonsalves.

Before medical marijuana was legalized in Maryland, both of them had an interest in starting a medical marijuana company  years before it became legal in Maryland.

“‘What really did drive our passion was my wife’s experience in nursing so she has treated patients that have all types of illnesses from epilepsy to Crohn’s disease,” says Robert Gonsalves.

“Healthcare and my passion for something like medical cannabis together I couldn’t pass it up,” says Jamila Gonsalves.

Jamila’s grandfather passed away due to stomach cancer and was taking medical marijuana to medicate himself.  When Jamila first found out about her grandfather using medical marijuana she was surprised but realized how much it had helped her grandfather out and was in full support of it.

Another of their deciding factors for choosing Wicomico County is the opportunity to donate a portion of their profits to the community. One of them being their local fire department.

“Absolutely the fire department that one is close to my heart. The local schools. Someone told me they have no air conditioning,” Jamila Consalves.

Jamila tells 47 ABC they are interested in involving different local businesses such as barber shops and salons to participate in a plan to get free cuts before school starts.
