Pennsylvania woman arrested for shoplifting and assault in Rehoboth

Rehoboth Beach Police say, they have arrested a Pennsylvania woman after she assaulted an employee who reportedly caught her stealing at a store in Rehoboth.
According to reports, police were called in reference to a shoplifting complaint at Sierra Moon Surf Shop on Saturday around 3:30 PM. When officers arrived they reportedly found an employee attempting to restrain 50-year-old Sandra James,of Annville Pennsylvania. James allegedly was seen removing merchandise and placing it in a bag, and an employee confronted her. That’s when police say she became disorderly with the employee after he removed the stolen item from her bag and was attempting to keep her at the store while they called police. During the course of attempting to restrain her, she allegedly struck the employee in the eye, bit him on the left arm, and had their shorts torn.
James was taken into custody and found to be in possession of several other stolen clothing items from another location in Rehoboth Beach.
James is being charged with one count of assault 3rd degree, shoplifting, disorderly conduct, and attempted shoplifting. Also two counts of criminal mischief.
James was committed to Sussex Correctional Institute in default of $1800 secured bond and is scheduled for an additional hearing on October 6th.
