Parkside Football Tops Depleted Decatur

The Parkside football team played host to Stephen Decatur on Saturday afternoon and came away with a 27-14 win. The win improves the Rams to 5-3, while the loss drops the Seahawks to 3-5.

The Rams would jump out to a lead after Tavon Downing broke a 34 yard touchdown run up the left side on a 4th and 1 play. The Seahawks would have a quick 3 and out, and the Rams would go right back to work. Luke Pitsenbarger would drive them down the field, and then Trajon Branch would bust loose for a 25 yard touchdown run to make it a two score game. Parkside would squib kick the kickoff, and the Seahawks couldn’t handle it, as the Rams would recover. Very next play and Terriq Bivens would scamper up the sideline for a score. Then finally, Decatur would find their footing. Darion McKenzie would lead his team down the field and finish a long drive with a short keeper off the left side for a touchdown. The Rams would then come right back, and cap off a drive with another touchdown run from Branch. With under 3 minutes to play in the half, McKenzie would again get the offense moving, driving them the length of the field before breaking a 25 yard touchdown run to get his team with 27-14 at the break. Both teams defenses came to play in the second half though as the Rams would close the door. The injuries continued to mount for Decatur in the game, as they were already on their 3rd string running back of De’Quan Andrews, before he would go down with an ankle injury.

Parkside returns to the field next Friday when they host Kent Island, while Decatur host Bennett on Friday.
