Oct. 21- Purple Purse Campaign

Eleven years ago the ALLSTATE Foundation began to fund a financial empowerment program called “Moving Through Financial Management”.

This 5 week program teaches financial literacy to victims of domestic violence, many of whom are women and their children. Through this course, victims and survivors of domestic violence learn to control their finances so they are not forced to return to their abusive relationships. Women need cash, they need loans and they need to improve their credit and this program helps them do that. We provide education, counseling, credit repair and micro-loans to enable women to become self-sustaining members of society.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and “Purple Purse” is a social media fund raising campaign to help fund this initiative. It runs during the month of October. Purple is the color of domestic violence and a purse is a woman’s symbol of power. In her purse a woman carries her car keys, wallet, credit cards, cash, cell phone, all the symbols of power and self-control. The money we earn during this campaign will help victims of domestic violence once again become self-sustaining members of society.
